We hosted a webinar on March 13th to turn to experts to answer some of the most common questions we have been receiving from our members about how the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak may impact women who are pregnant or postpartum, and new mothers who are breastfeeding, as well as whether and how the coronavirus might impact individuals going through fertility treatments.

Checkout the full conversation below with our Founder and CEO, Kate Ryder, alongside Dr. Jane van Dis, Maven Medical Director and OB-GYN, and Dr. Brian Levine, Reproductive Endocrinologist and founding partner of CCRM.

Some of the questions discussed include:

  • Are pregnant women at increased risk from the coronavirus?
  • What should I be thinking about for their birth plan?
  • Should women be skipping any routine, in-person prenatal appointments right now if they’re in their 1st or 2nd trimester?
  • Could the coronavirus have any negative impact on any individual’s fertility?
  • Are fertility clinics open right now?
  • For families looking at going through the IVF process as soon as April or May, what do they need to be thinking about?

“Be aware that, from watching the experience in Italy and elsewhere, the healthcare workforce is going to get stretched,” explained Dr. Jane van Dis. “Be aware, stay in contact with your OB, and if you have any questions about your pregnancy, we’re here on Maven and we can answer a lot of your questions online.”

“It appears from everything that we can see right now that attempting to achieve pregnancy and staying pregnant is unassociated with the coronavirus,” shared Dr. Brian Levine. “We’re cautioning our patients about what they’re reading on the Internet and hearing in the media about COVID-19 and fertility or pregnancy.”
