How much does Maven cost, and how does it work with my health insurance?

You don’t need to worry about insurance coverage or out-of-pocket costs when using the Maven program. Maven is provided at no additional cost to Columbia University faculty and staff and their covered dependents who are enrolled in a University medical plan.

Who is eligible for Maven?

Access to Maven programs varies depending on medical plan participation and Union participation:

  • Officers, Post-Docs, Obama Fellows, and Non-Union Support Staff medical plan participants and their covered dependents have access to:
    • Maven Family Building (Preconception, Fertility support (IUI/IVF), Adoption & Surrogacy support)
    • Maven Maternity (21-month Program)
    • Maven Wallet for Adoption & Surrogacy expenses
  • All Union employee medical plan participants in 2110, SSA, 1199 East, and TWU and their covered dependents have access to:
    • Maven Family Building (Preconception, Fertility support (IUI/IVF), Adoption & Surrogacy support)
    • Maven Maternity (21-month Program)
  • Full-time, regular benefits-eligible Officers and full-time, regular Non-Union Support Staff not enrolled in a Columbia University medical plan have access to:
    • Maven Adoption & Surrogacy support
    • Maven Wallet for Adoption & Surrogacy expenses

    You can use Maven to book unlimited coaching and educational virtual appointments with providers across more than 30 specialties, including OB-GYNs, mental health specialists, lactation consultants, doulas, and more.

    What if I already have an in-person OB-GYN or pediatrician?

    You should continue to see your in-person provider. Maven provides additional support to your care as our providers include a range of specialists you might not have access to - from midwives and doulas to diabetes coaches and career coaches - and they’re also available via message or video call 24/7. Your Care Advocate can also help you find in-person, in-network providers if needed.

    How can Maven support non-birthing parents throughout the parenthood journey?

    Eligible partners can sign up for their own account and benefit from Maven’s provider appointments, articles, videos, and virtual classes. Those enrolled in the Maven partner track will also receive content that’s specific to the partner experience.

    Do Maven’s providers speak languages other than English?

    Providers on Maven speak over 35 different languages, including Spanish, Mandarin, Hindi, French, German, Hebrew and many others. In addition, Maven offers simultaneous translation similar to what you might experience in a hospital or clinic if you didn’t speak the same language as the provider. Your Care Advocate can help you navigate to the best providers to fit your needs.

    Signing up for Maven is as easy as downloading the Maven Clinic app to your iOS or Android device and following the prompts to get started. If you’d rather sign up from your desktop, just follow the "Activate your membership" links on this page. Just remember that if you’re a covered dependent of a Columbia University faculty or staff member, you’ll need to use their information to validate your own membership.

    How do I sign up for Maven Wallet*?

    After activating your free Maven membership, Columbia University faculty and staff who are eligible for Maven Wallet will be able to access it within the Maven platform. Maven Wallet can be used for easy reimbursement of qualifying expenses related to adoption and/or surrogacy.
